Young Carers at Wymondham High Academy

“A young carer is someone aged under 18 who cares for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, cannot cope without their support. Older young carers are also known as young adult carers and they may have different support needs to younger carers.”

Carers Trust, 2025

At Wymondham High Academy, we recognise that our young carers might need some extra support, so we have developed a policy and agreement which enables us to put this support in place and for our young carers to flourish. Please see our policy and agreement.

We first achieved the Friendly Tick Award in 2019, and applied for our third renewal in July 2025. We are really proud of our progress over the last few years, but continue to strive to improve our practice and adapt our provision where necessary.

If you are a young carer, there are many people you can turn to in school, including your form tutor, Head of Year, Deputy Head of Year and other members of our pastoral team. We also have two designated Young Carers Champions in school:

Mr J Edwards [email protected]

Deputy Headteacher and DSL

Office in North block

Mrs L Sparrow [email protected]

Teacher of MFL

Classroom M18
