Wymondham High Academy

About Our School

Our vision is to develop happy and successful people who accept responsibility, demonstrate determination and act with humility.

Welcome to Wymondham High, an 11–18 co-educational Academy. Currently there are 1705 students on roll. Over 400 of these are in the 6th form.

We feel proud of the high standards reached by all members of our community and our focus  on raising standards and creating opportunities for all our students. Our ethos means that all aspects of the curriculum are valued and celebrated with a focus on raising students’ awareness of how they can thrive and develop towards adulthood. We believe that our pupils should be determined, responsible and that they will act with humility.

Excellent academic achievement, highly committed, well qualified staff and a relentless focus on standards has resulted in an Academy with an ethos which values success and this is supported by all members of our community – the students, the staff, our parents and governors. The Academy has excellent and expanding facilities, extensive grounds and almost exclusive use of the local sports centre during school hours. We pride ourselves on the pastoral care of all members of our community through our exceptional Inclusion Team.

The Sixth Form has been recognised by Ofsted as Outstanding, and indeed, regularly features at the top of the league table for similar schools for both attainment and progress. In 2019, 80% of our entries achieved Grades A*-C. With the focus on academic achievements, all students follow 3 A Level courses with a full extra-curricular programme. Oxbridge and University preparation programmes, an enrichment curriculum and Information, Advice and Guidance Officers ensures that all students are well supported. The Sixth Form Collaborative Learning Centre, Study Rooms and separate ICT facilities enable private study in conducive surroundings, ably supported by our 6th Form Leadership team.

In 2018 the Academy was the highest performing state school in the county and in 2019 53% of our pupils achieved a Grade 5 or above in English and mathematics. We are also proud that the breadth of our core, focused and specialised curricula allows our young people to follow a 7-year journey without diminishing their subject opportunities.

Learning and Teaching are our priority areas and students have targets set which are monitored throughout their time at the Academy. A friendly yet formal, traditional yet forward looking ethos underpins the notion that we expect students to enjoy learning, coming to school prepared to learn and try their very best and to achieve.
